Going on a “Walkabout”

LoadingFavoriteAdd to favorites

walkaboutGood day everyone. Here we are just a few days into the new year of 2016!  I am so excited for what this year has to offer.

I will keep this brief but I wanted to let you know that for the first time since Nouveau Raw began, that I won’t be available for the next month or so… oy-vey, I just might experience withdrawals. lol

It has been my daily routine every day for well over six years to snuggle up with my computer pouring over your comments, questions and emails. Making sure to respond to all of them. I adore each and every one of you and have made so many amazing friends through my site.  However….

This Friday, on the 8th of January, I am detaching from all that I am today, in hopes of returning even stronger, more enlightened, and grounded…   Thus the term walkabout comes into play.

“A walkabout requires a decision to take a first step, and a conscious and intentional movement  (inwardly, outwardly or both) in the general direction of a longing or calling — with an openness to the actual experience, and  a minimal attachment to expectations and results.” Betsy Lewis

Betsy, said it perfectly.  Please feel free to leave comments and ask your questions on recipe posts and once I am back, I will answer them all.  I have a recipe post scheduled to be released every Wednesday while I am gone so that should keep you busy while I am away. hehe That and the 1,200+ recipes already available to you.  Many blessings, be well.  amie sue

  31. Alice says:

    Hi Amie Sue,
So glad to hear that you are taking time out for yourself. I guess we are on the same page so to speak. Every January now for the past 2 years I do a 30 day cleanse where I only consume organic green juices or blended drinks. It is marvelous for the body and it is very soothing to the soul, and brings things back into perspective for me as to what is important and what is not.
Thank you for all that you give and for who you are. You have added so much to my life with all your exquisite recipes and your funny anecdotes.
I know you will come back refreshed, renewed, and revitalized. All the best. Alice

    • amie-sue says:

I so appreciate that Alice. I am going deeper than just an electronic fast and juicing… in fact I have never done anything like this before for myself. I am taking my healing down to deeps of my core. It’s interesting how hard it can be to practice self-love for our own well-beings. But I know that when I return, that I will have so much more of “myself” to share with you all.

Enjoy your days and many blessings, amie sue

  32. Have an amazing adventure and very glad you are taking this time for yourself. You bring so much goodness into the world. Thank you and look forward to hearing all about it! Be well!

    • amie-sue says:

Thank you very much Brett. I can’t even begin to fathom what lies ahead of me and I am ok with that. :) I hope you have a blessed and wonder month while I am gone and look forward to my return. Blessings, amie sue

    • amie-sue says:

Hugs to you too Leila. I have an amazing adventure set before me… some of which I know, most of which I don’t and I am ok with that. This is about removing, me, my ego… and allowing what the universe has for me. It is scary, yet exciting. I hope that I can share it all one day. I have been on quite a journey over the past 5 years. When your in the kitchen, creating recipes from the site, know that I am with you in spirit. Blessings, amie sue

    Hello,

Just found your site. Going back now to raw after a long, not needed break. Love your recipe ideas.
Not sure if you are still on your walk about…but, here is a question, if you have time. If not, thats okay too.
In my quest to go back to raw I am having a hard time dropping my vice- chai tea with sweetened condensed milk. Regular milk. I am mostly vegan except for this darn milk. Do you suggest a yummy sub for this? I make my own chai tea- i just want sweet and creamy with it…haha.
All the best to you and yours…

    • amie-sue says:

      Hello Kate,

Welcome to my site. :) Sweetened condensed milk… hmm, how about giving this a try:

      Ingredients:
1/2 cup raw cashews, soaked 2+ hours
1/2 cup liquid sweetener of choice
      1/3 cup coconut butter, softened
      2 Tbsp lemon juice
      1 tsp vanilla extract
      Pinch Himalayan pink salt
*water to thin to desired thickness*

      Preparation:
Blend in a high powdered blender until creamy… This is key! You don’t want to detect any grit. Adjust sweetness and consistency to your liking. If you like liquid NuNatural stevia, you could cut down the level of sweetener added and then add a little stevia to find your balance. I like to mix sweeteners.
      Add chia tea..

    Hi There Amie-sue,

I was so inspired by your website, I ordered a Food Processor and Excalibur Dehydrator. They’ve arrived and now I am wondering where to start. I cleaned out my pantry, of processed bottled items, I even found some nuts in plastic grocery sleeves, uhh, they had small flour weevils. So I’m off to buy glass jars with rubber seals. I made your Nut Burgers and they were the most delicious burger ever. I need suggestions on how to stock my pantry to get into a rhythm for stocking, soaking, dehydrating. Should I start with Bars and Crackers? To build my supply? You really are so inspirational, I want to eat your photo’s and smell your entree’s. Thank you for this blog/website. Momiala

      Good day Momiala,

I just wanted to let you know that I got your comment here and I will sit down and share later tonight. I have been so busy and I don’t want to rush through my thought process so I can better help/support you. I will be back! amie sue

Sorry that it took me an extra day to get back to you Momiala. I am tickled that my site has brought you some inspiration. :)

Good job and cleaning out the pantry… gosh, we all need to do that every so often. Those darn weevils! I have been using mason jars for so many years now, that I don’t have any bug issues. You will be glad to get your storage switched over to them.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed the Nut Burgers. Those are pretty darn good for sure. :)

I think the first thing that I would do, is to get yourself organized.. which it sounds like you are already in the midst of that. As far as building up your pantry / fridge / freezer… I would start with getting all the nuts and seeds soaked and dehydrated. This will be helpful for the ease of quick snacking and for when recipe inspiration attacks. :) Click here if you need some guidance on that: https://nouveauraw.com/soaking-nuts-seeds-and-grains/.

If you have the fridge or freezer space… I would store the dehydrated nuts/seeds in jars in the fridge or freezer to protect them from going rancid. If you think you will use them within a month, the pantry should be just fine.

I have made it a habit over the years to soaked and dry all nuts/seeds the moment I bring them home. Now it just second nature.

When it comes to stocking up on raw goods; bars, cookies, granolas, cereals, crackers, and raw breads and great because they can all be frozen for 1-3 months (depending on what they are). You can create a recipe and keep half for the up and coming week and put the remaining half in the freezer. Before you know it, you will have a supply stocked up. Be sure to store everything in airtight containers so freezer odors don’t creep in. Label and date them too.

Does this help Momiala? Please let me know. Blessings, amie sue

        Hi there,
        Your answer is super helpful!
I forgot where I asked the question on your website and I finally found it, Lol.
I made the trail nut bars in my dehydrator and that has been my evening treat out of the freezer. Has helped me to get over my hagendaz cravings. Thank you again for writing back to me. Momiala
