Playing Catch Up

June 11, 2011 – As some of you may know or not know…I have been testing different food processors.  Sort of doing a product review to see which one I like best.  I have tried and tested a total of 3 different ones.

The latest one that I really have enjoyed was the Cuisinart 14 cup.  I bought it at Costco with an instant rebate and got it for $124 but today,  I noticed they now have it for $99!  Smoking deal.  It’s a really nice model that can easily keep up with your day-to-day kitchen tasks.

I was all in love, until…..my lovely husband brought me home his BIG brother, not my husband’s brother silly, the Cuisinart’s brother!! (the one on the right of the picture, which is actually a commercial unit) I think my husband is trying to tell me that he is enjoying the foods I make for him. haha

I think I could throw my flip flops in there and make “butter” out of them in that big boy!  Shew!  I can’t wait to give it a try.  I have some recipes in mind that usually require me to break the batter into 2 batches due to the number of ingredients, but I have complete faith that I will be able to do it all at the same time now.  I will keep you posted. The gifts don’t stop there… Bob and I just returned from a trip to Vegas and San Diego.  While we were in SD he bought me this special gift too….(see picture)

Those are some pretty fancy dishwashing gloves! Hmmm, are seeing what I am seeing? ….a heavy duty food processor followed up by dishwashing gloves….hmmm, he thinks that he is so sneaky!  haha  I really do have to admit though, these rubber gloves are adorable and I love them.

Pretty high-class packaging, all wrapped in tissue paper, for rubber gloves if you ask me. :)  So, I can’t wait to try both of them out.  I want to make a special raw granola for my friend Jami.  We are doing some swapping of services.  She makes these amazing greeting cards that are just gorgeous.

So in exchange for some cards, I am making raw food dishes for her.  I can’t beat that now can I.  I hope one day, I too will be making cards like these, but first I need to gather some supplies and like any hobby, it is an investment.

This is my first attempt at making one.  I only have a few markers and don’t have the flesh color so you will have to excuse her nakkidness!

For now, I will stick to being creative in the kitchen.  Stay tuned for more recipes!

You are too sweet Amie Sue! I love your card, and I most certainly love your cooking!! I was just telling Bob how amazingly talented I think you are! I am so blessed to know you both!

I have yet to purchase a food processor….I think I will start small and get a decent food scale, then work my way up. :) Big hugs!

    Hello Aime Sue,
I’m 3 1/2 months into Raw Foods and love it. I feel nourished! Like never before! And I’ve lost 20 pounds effortlessly. 15 more to go or so…

I used to think my extra weight was some psychological comfort pattern but now I realize I ate because I never felt nourished.

Your site is wonderful. Overwhelming and wonderful. But it is such a great playing field.

I am wondering about which dehydrator to buy. Should I get the Excaliber or the Good4U brand? 5/6 tray or 9/10 tray?

I never loved the kitchen but I’m learning good things and enjoying it now. Still, I want to feed myself and my husband more than take it on as an art form.

I do really appreciate your artistry on this website! Too bad I live so far away!

      Good evening Soorya,

Welcome to the Raw Food world and congratulations on all your success so far! I so agree with your conclusion about eating and never felt nourished before. Our bodies are so much smarter than what we give them credit for. Now, if our brains could only learn to listen better?! :) It’s a growing process.

I highly recommend the Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator. I have two of them and run them all the time. In over 4 yrs now, they have yet to fail me. I share a little bit about it here. https://nouveauraw.com/raw-techniques/dehydration-2/. To be honest I am not aware of the Good4U brand so I can’t speak for it. I looked it up on Amazon and it looks similar to the Excalibur but again, I haven’t used it, so I am not sure. I do know that if one of my machines ever went down I would buy another without a blink of an eye. :)

Stay in touch! And if you have more questions, I am here to help. :) Many blessings, amie sue

    About kitchen appliances…
I have a Hurom Slow Juicer that I love and a Professional Vita Mix.

Would you advise a Cuisinart as well or can I make do with the Wet Container of the Vita Mix.

I like to go slow and steady at this point because in my haste in the past I over-indulged in everything and ended up not digesting well…if you know what I mean.

I believe now that I was always on the hunt for nourishment. But then what life form isn’t!

      Hi Soorya,

I do recommend a food processor as well. Whereas you can do A LOT with a Vitamix, it can cause more work when trying to make cookies batters or just plain recipes that you don’t want it risk liquifying. For e, my kitchen must haves are; a food processor, a high speed blender, juicer and dehydrator. I have been known to travel with one of more of those machines. haha I have had several food processors and right now I use the Cuisinart 14 cup and have been pretty happy with it. I have a commercial grade one that I use as well. I do agree that it is best to slowly add foods into your diet. If your body isn’t use to all the extra fiber specially, it can cause unneeded discomfort.
Have a blessed day, amie sue!
