Rethink Your Greens Smoothie

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

Today’s smoothie is all about rethinking your greens and I am not referring to the different hues that the color green comes in.  This morning I woke thinking about what my morning smoothie was going to be like.  I am trying more and more to really listen to my body to see if I can recognize what it is asking for.  Use to be a day when rice crispy bars had a huge calling within me, but my body has shifted.  It literally craves greens, veggies of all sorts and fruits.

As I was rummaging through my cabinets I stumbled upon a container of Innate Women’s +40 Greens powder that I was taking last spring.  I sort of forgot I still had some left.  I had gotten out of the habit of taking it when we were traveling.  I decided to add it to today’s smoothie.  I put some product info about it down below. It’s pretty darn amazing.  So this morning, here I sat chewing my smoothie and thinking about all the green power that was in it and asked myself why.

Why do I love all this green stuff, why do I love all these amazing power-house foods that I am adding to my smoothies and the short answer is….it is what my body wants and when you supply your body what it is craving it is all that much more pleasurable!  It satisfies the taste buds, the ritual, the tummy, the mind and the soul.  It’s just down right nourishing to my body on all levels.  So use these recipes as simple guidelines.  Put ingredients into your smoothies that you are drawn to that very moment and enjoy it!

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups spinach
  • 3 1/2 oz banana, ripe  (1 medium)
  • 7.7 oz mango (1 medium, seed and skin removed)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 scoop Women’s +40 Renewal (see below), optional
  • 3 Tbsp SunWarrior Raw Vegan Protein powder (natural flavor)
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice (helps to cut the “green flavors” if that is an issue for you)
  • 1 tsp NuStevia

Preparation:

  • Blend water and spinach in your blender first.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
  • **I add a handful of ice to my smoothies too.**

Tip to always remember!

  • Blending fruits and vegetables together breaks down the cells of plants and improves digestibility. BUT even with that, be sure to chew your smoothies.  The chewing process starts the release of the saliva in your mouth.  The mixture of saliva and your food is were digestion begins.  This is a very healthy habit to get into.  It may feel strange at first but soon it will become an automatic response.

    Hi Amie Sue

I absolutely Love your website. Your recipes and pictures are gorgeous. I love to browse through when I have a few minutes. i am hoping to get a dehydraytor soon.
I make the best green smoothies and the secret is to freeze your fresh spinach and your fresh fruit.
When I make a smoothie it is for my son, my husband and me my vitamix blender is full.
    Ready ?
    32oz. water
    1 tbs. coconut mana
    1 tbs. coconut oil
    2 tbs. lacuma
2 scoops Sun Warrior Protien Powder (vanilla or neutral)
    1 tsp. vitamineral greens
    1 tsp. ormus greens
    2 Handsful of frozen spinach
    4 or 5 frozen bananas

Start off with the water, then add all ingredients leaving the spinach and bananas for last. place lid on vitamix and blend on max speed until blended. I hope you enjoy it. The banana is my favorite but I also make it with strawberry, and mixed organic berries, sometimes I add half an avocado to it. This is often my lunch for work for a 13 hour shift along with a couple of pieces of fruit. God Bless Carol

I freeze the spinach to make the drink cold so I don’t have to add ice it works out well .I buy fresh spinach and freeze it not already frozen spinach .

    • amie-sue says:

Hmm, interesting Carol. I freeze my bananas and like to add a few ice cubes… Thanks for sharing your tip on that. amie sue

  3. alison jones says:

would not the spinach lose a lot of its nutritional value after being frozen?

    • amie-sue says:

I believe that some nutrients can be lost when we freeze foods. Optimally, fresh is always the best but if it isn’t available, I don’t mind using organic frozen foods once in a while. amie sue

  4. alison jones says:

also spinach is not that great as a main source of greens.. it can actually prohibit the production of iron in the body.. best to vary your green veg as much as poss…

    • amie-sue says:

Spinach has its place and nutrients. It is a good one to include in your diet but I agree that it is best to vary your greens making sure you get a well balance of minerals and vitamins. :) Have a great evening, amie sue
