Crio-Brü-Cold-Pressed-Drink-with-almond-milk– raw, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free –

Here we go… I have a new drink to introduce.  “All rise, the Crio Brü Coffee has arrived.  You may now be seated.”  I stumbled upon this new drink the other day as I was frequenting our local health food store.

I get into more trouble when I go to that place.  I get the same wide-eyed, overwhelming response that a child gets on their face when they walk into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory when  I go into health food stores.   I want to inspect everything!  I try to go alone, so I don’t feel rushed.  Going in there with my husband is like sending a child to the candy store and telling them, “Ok, you have three minutes to select ONE candy…go!”

So in my dreamy, lolly-gagging state of leisure, I found myself in the back of the store where all the “interesting stuff” hides.  You know that place… where the aisles have low lighting and the dust bunnies run rampant?!   That is where I stumbled upon Crio Brü.  It caught my attention and went right into my basket!   So now, I want to share it with you.

What is Crio Brü?

Crio Brü is made from 100%, perfectly roasted cocoa beans. Nothing more, nothing less. No sugar, no chemicals, no dairy. Although Crio Brü roasts the cocoa beans, many of the health benefits found in its natural state are preserved, giving you a superior product with sky-high antioxidants, abundant minerals, and healthy energy.

The cocoa beans used in Crio Brü and Crio Beans are superior to most foods because they deliver so many nutrients that we each need to boost health and wellness*. Here is a list of some of the benefits of incorporating cocoa beans into your life:  Crio Brü is made from 100%, perfectly roasted cocoa beans. Nothing more, nothing less. No sugar, no chemicals, no dairy. Although Crio Brü roasts the cocoa beans, many of the health benefits found in its natural state are preserved, giving you a superior product with sky-high antioxidants, abundant minerals, and healthy energy.

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. I use a 1/2 gallon mason jar.  Dump in the ground nibs and fill with water.   Place the lid on top and give it a shake.
  2. Let it stand/brew for about 12 hours or overnight.  I kept mine in the fridge.
  3. First, pour through a nut bag to get the large grounds.  Then filter and/or sieve the liquid using a fine filter to remove all residue of the grounds.
  4. The extract is now ready to be stored in the fridge for up two weeks.  When reconstituted, it becomes a delicious, smooth-tasting, drink.
  5. To prepare your drink, pour out a little extract and add warm-hot water, about 1/4 cup of extract to about 3/4 cup of water depending on your tastes.
  6. You can add the “extract” in steamed nut milks for espresso drinks, or with hot water for a regular drink.  Tastes fantastic with coconut milk too!

Tip – To prevent your “coffee” drink from getting watered down, freeze some of the “coffee” in ice cubes trays.

Does it contain caffeine?

Depending on the type of cacao bean it is made from, it either contains little to no caffeine or trace amounts. The misconception that chocolate (cacao) contains caffeine is based primarily on confusion between two similar alkaloids: caffeine and theobromine. The two stimulants are related and have similar chemical structures, but possess very different properties, effects, and origins.

Are the Crio Bru grounds good for plants?

Yes, similar to coffee grounds, Crio Brü grounds make great compost. The iron and magnesium make an excellent additive to your soil. NOTE: Please ensure that pets won’t get into the soil, as it could be very harmful, even fatal.

I enjoy seeing you each month at genesis. You are dynamic! What health food store did you find the crio bru? Just reading about it makes my mouth water…healthy coffee alternative….can’t wait to try it!

I received a food dehydrator for Christmas and have not had a lot of luck using it. You make it sound so wonderful. Would you consider giving a class on dehydration? Thank you for sharing your web site.

Good evening Connie… thank you so much. :) It just blesses me to share my passion with others. I found the crio bru at New Life on Speedway. It is the back, far right corner, on a back end cap (unless they moved it:) I would be thrilled to do a teaching about the dehydrator. Please send me an email to [email protected] and let’s see what we can do. We need to get you using that thing! hehe Many blessings and I look forward in hearing from you. amie sue

I just found out about cold brew and wondered if I could do it with my Criobru. The company encourages reusing the grounds. Do you think that will work well?

    • amie-sue says:

      Hello Ren,

Good question. I never tried reusing them. All I can suggest is to try it. Or maybe contacting the manufacture for advice on this. How do you like this product? It has been a while since I have had it but I did enjoy it at the time. Have a great evening. amie sue

This sounds like Choffey (or choffy) I found this at the Beaverton Farmer’s Market. Ground Cacao beans.

I just found your website today from another raw site that shared one of your recipes. I’m smitten, to say the least! I can’t stop reading, I’ve pretty much taken my whole Saturday to sit and devour all that you have for us, from the captivating pictures to the scrumptious recipes to the endless and very needed information that you share- and I shan’t forget your wonderful sense of humor in your posts. I’m laying now in bed typing this as to not wake my husband… An all day adventure that I just can’t seem to put down. I feel like I’ve known you forever. Thanks Amie for your talent and commitment! I love you already!

      Good evening Kay…

I was just about to turn in for the night myself… and decided to check my email one last time (addicted?). That is when I got your comment. You have no idea how much you just blessed me. I don’t mean to sound toooo sappy, but my eyes even welled up with tears. I am touched that “we” got to spend the day together as you traveled through my “life” that I share so passionately through the recipes. Now it’s time to get in the kitchen and have some fun… well, not right now, we both need some shut-eye so we can have a fresh, energetic start tomorrow.

I spent the day making kale chips and frankly the aromas are making me really hungry which is not good at this hour. I could think of worse smells, so I won’t complain. Please do keep in touch and if I can help at all, just let me know. Many blessings Kay… amie sue
