Today, I wanted to share with you my sacred space…my Studio Kitchen. This space continues to evolve with my interests and passions. When we moved into this house, this space was a two-car garage. Within a few years, we transformed it into a commercial kitchen for our food manufacturing business. After six years, it has been fully remodeled as the home of ALL my creativity. If you are interested, you can read all about the remodeling process (here).
The main purpose of this post is to show you how my plants are thriving in a space the is basically lit with all fluorescent lighting. As you look through the photos, pay attention to the placement of the plants, lights, windows, etc. I do have two west-facing windows and an east-facing door window. I don’t get any direct light through these windows. It’s very diffused, so I have to rely on my overhead studio lights to “feed” my plants. Fluorescent lights are ideal for plants with low to medium light requirements. Those of you who have a similar situation may find this post helpful and encouraging.
Below, I am sharing some random photos as I spun around the room snapping photos. I hope you enjoyed this post. Please leave a comment below. blessings, amie sue

Gorgeous! I would love to know more practical details too, like how long do you leave the lights on every day, how you place the lights, what bulbs you use and if there’s anything specific you look for in your fluorescent lighting like a certain spectrum etc, whether you mix any other kinds of lighting in like LEDs or incandescent, and so forth! I have zero natural light in my kitchen but I would love to have plants so I’m very interested indeed 💜
Good day Anna,
Let me see if I can answer all your questions…
Q. How long do you leave the lights on every day?
A. I have the lights on most of the day. Not just for the plants but I spend a lot of time in this space.
Q. How you place the lights
A. I have 10 foot ceilings in this space and they are mounted on the ceiling.
Q. What bulbs do you use and is there anything specifics you look for in your fluorescent lighting like a certain spectrum etc,
A. Since this post I have switched to LED lights bulbs, they are up to 80% more efficient, energy-wise.
Q. whether you mix any other kinds of lighting in like LEDs or incandescent, and so forth!
A. Since this post, I have added two grow lights that are directional towards an area where I have three shelves on the wall and wanted extra light there for my
propagated plants. Other than that, I don’t have any other lights in the space for plants. Mainly the overhead ones.
I hope this helps. blessings, amie sue
