alkalizing Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Drink in bottles

~ raw, alkalizing, nut-free, vegan, Paleo ~

This recipe was created for my husband, Bob.  I am not sure what started his craving for this drink, but I’m not going to hamper it by any means.  He started coming home with grocery bags filled with Braggs Apple Vinegar and Honey drink. Downing one drink at $2.59 wasn’t such a big deal, but when I would find 2-3 bottles around the house in one day… well, I decided that I better learn how to make it myself. He was spending my young Thai coconut savings fund! lol

Let’s talk Ingredients:

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar – alkaline

When motoring your buggy cart down the aisles of the grocery store, steer clear of commercially distilled vinegar for this drink or any drink. They don’t have the same health properties.  I have been using Braggs Raw Apple Cider Vinegar for years and loved it.  It is organic, unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized, and 5% acidity. Each bottle contains the amazing Mother of Vinegar.  Mother? What the mother!?

The mother is the dark, cloudy substance in the ACV formed from naturally occurring pectin and apple residues – it appears as molecules of protein connected in strand-like chains. The presence of the mother shows that the best part of the apple has not been destroyed. Vinegar containing the mother contains enzymes and minerals that other vinegar may not contain due to overprocessing, filtration, and overheating. The mother is the most nutritious part of the Apple Cider Vinegar and is very beneficial to digest. ” (1)

The alkalinity of apple cider vinegar can help correct excess acidity in our system and help prevent and fight infection by promoting a more balanced PH in the body. Studies have shown that diseases flourish in acidic conditions. Returning the body to a more alkaline state may help to combat a host of conditions such as bladder infections, aching muscles and joints, fatigue, allergies, and sluggish or poor digestion.

Raw Honey  – alkaline

Let’s face it, a sticky smear of honey can make anything taste better, but that’s not the only reason why we added it to this drink. Unprocessed raw honey is also classified as an alkaline-forming food, and in addition to making the vinegar more palatable, it will also aid in balancing your PH levels. By the way, you don’t need pasteurized honey,  pasteurization of honey is a marketing issue, not a health concern.

Amongst the many health benefits of raw honey, a critical advantage for me is that honey can be a robust immune system booster. It’s antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties can help improve the digestive system due to the live enzymes, which help the body break down foods and undigested particles. You can find a lot of “late-night” reading (here) if you want to learn more about honey.

alkalizing Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Drink in bottles in a milk crateIngredients:

yields 7 cups

Preparation:

  1. When blending this drink, do it in two batches since the blender carafe won’t hold it all.
  2. Using a blender, combine the water, vinegar, and honey.  Only use low to medium speeds. Otherwise, the mix will foam too much.
    • Before adding the ACV, gently shake the bottle to distribute the ‘mother’ before measuring out the amount needed.
  3. Pour the drink mixture into glass bottles or jars, and place 1-2 slivers of ginger — Cap and place in the fridge.
  4. This drink should last a week, safely, in the fridge.
    • It’s best to drink the concoction as fresh as possible. Even though honey and ACT are anti-bacteria, the chances of bacteria growth during storage increase as the concentration of the vinegar and honey drops with a dilution of water.
    • I used (these) bottles that you can purchase from my Amazon store. I Love them; I ordered two more cases for my kombucha drinks too.
  5. If you are faced with a cold wintry night, warm up a glass of the drink, sip, and savor.

Hi Amie Sue, for a long time my body did not accept normal grape vinegar yet my body loves-d limes/ lemons unlimited. Till i found out about organic/ bio dynamic apple cider vinegar. I tasted it and my body had no reaction and even loved the taste with mother color. since then i use apple cider vinegar in our salads when we have no fresh lemons at home. You gave us, as usual, a Very great Idea for alkaline juice recipe! it sounds delicious with fresh ginger and honey…just made one small bottle and it taste great…
    Many Blessings,

      Good morning Afsaneh,

It’s interesting how we all react to foods… we are so truly uniquely made. I just completed a 30 day sugar-free challenge (surpassed it is more like it, I am going to keep going for the time being) but I made this same drink with stevia instead of honey. I know honey has its health benefits but with my challenge, I needed to skip for the time being. I enjoyed the drink too.

Bob had been dealing with a strange tummy bug a few weeks ago so I suggested that I make more of these drinks up for him… not meaning to sound dramatic here but he said it saved his life. Not that he on the brink of death, he just felt like it. The drink helped to calm whatever was going with in him.

Thank you as always for sharing. I enjoy reading what you have to say. Have a blessed weekend. We are expecting rain and I am so looking forward to it. hugs, amie sue

Hi Amie Sue. Is there a brand of raw honey you prefer?

  3. darelle says:

    Hello Amie Sue,

Firstly, for ages now I’ve been meaning to post and thank you for your wonderful recipes that I’ve been able to make use of (for free) for so long. However, I used to feel a bit guilty as I know how long it takes to create something and take the photos and put it all onto the web. So, as one of your new members I now feel that even with the small contribution that I make each month that I’m now ‘paying my way’ to a small degree.

I have a question from this recipe. Where did you get the bottle carrier/holder from?

    Best regards, Darelle

My goodness that was a quick reply Amie Sue! Do you ever sleep :-)

I have managed to find one very similar here in New Zealand that I can order online. Having the description from your link made finding it so much easier. Thank you so much.

    Best regards, Darelle

PS I just LOVE how your website now works – especially the Search feature.

    • amie-sue says:

lol Darelle, Sometimes I doesn’t feel like I do. :)

That’s great that you found one locally. I am a bargain shopper so often I find my “props” that you see in the photos at second hand stores, antique stores, garage sales… or clearance isles. I would rather spend more money on good quality food, then pay full price for “things.”

I am glad that you are enjoying the site. I designed it with “ease” in mind. I wanted it to be visually enticing, easy to maneuver around, comfortable… they type of site that makes you want to slip an apron on and run barefoot through the kitchen. hehe

Enjoy the evening. :) amie sue

      • darelle says:

I didn’t even think of all those other shopping options that you mentioned. I need to be a bit more of a bargain hunter like you :-)

Well, you certainly succeeded with what you wanted for your website. What really makes ALL the difference is the lack of advertising. Unfortunately, it is more than visually appealing, as I make more than I should from your site. As for running ‘barefoot through the kitchen ….’ I’ll leave that to you Amie Sue :-)

Enjoy your evening and I’ll enjoy my lunch (it’s Monday the 19th here).

        Regards, Darelle

    Hi Amie Sue,
Thank you for another great recipe! The taste is very desirable.
I still have a concern about usage of ACV in my drinks. Would you still recommend consuming this product for someone who has osteoporosis? Would it reduce the bone density?
    Blessings,
    Eva

    • amie-sue says:

      Good evening Eva,

You’re welcome. I just made a double batch of this yesterday. It has turned into a staple around here. :)

I did a little reading on ACV and osteoporosis and it sounds like it is often used. Read through these, but I would also talk to your wellness practitioner too.

        Dear Amie-Sue,
Thank you very much for getting back to me so quick and doing more research in order to answer to my question.
I trust your knowledge and good intention in helping others. Only time will show the exact result. So far – I am convinced and going for it. It would be interesting to see my bone density test in a few month. I trust it will be very good!!
        With Love,
        Eva

        • amie-sue says:

          Good afternoon Eva,

Do you have another test scheduled? I had mine tested about 6 years ago and it was looking good so far. Do you have a wellness practitioner monitoring this with you? I wish the best for you and sending healing energy your way. :) amie sue

          • Eva says:

            Good morning Amie-Sue,

Thank you again for the follow up on my inquiry.
I should schedule the bone density test and compare the result with my last one, which I had 4 years ago. I don’t have wellness practitioner anymore since I believe that the positive energy + healthy food = are the best to keep myself healthy mentally and physically.

            With Love,
            Eva

              Good morning Eva,

I agree that “the positive energy + healthy food = are the best to keep myself healthy mentally and physically.” If osteoporosis showed up 4 years ago on your test… then it might be good to see what direction your heading in now. But you know what is best for you. :) I hope you have a blessed and wonderful day. I am slowly waking up to begin mine. :) amie sue

                Hi Amie-Sue,

Yes, I had been diagnosed with osteoporosis several times. I decided to follow up on Dr. Joe Dispenza’s healing teachings. I have heard that he is great. I went to one of his workshops and was absolutely amazed…. Here is one of the testimonials:

                  Good evening Eva,

I just watched the video. And may I say that it was meant for me to hear. So thank you for following your own intuition in sharing that with me. I am going to read more about him. :)

Keep up the positive heart and attitude. Blessings, amie sue
