This a seed truly after my own heart so they are appropriately named. Hemp seeds are something that I can enjoy daily without any adverse effect. They are one of the best sources of easily digestible plant protein.
Most seeds, grains, and legumes need to be soaked, dried, cooked and/or sprouted to deactivate toxins and compounds usually referred to as anti-nutrients. Anti-nutrients, such as phytic acid, often cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, flatulence, and diarrhea. They can also interfere with the absorption of nutrients. From the research that I have done, hemp seeds are unusual in that they contain no phytic acid, so you can eat them raw without any special preparations. (1)
Hemp seeds have a wide spectrum of health benefits… they have a concentrated source of essential fats, complete proteins, enzymes, and vitamins. They also have a balanced ratio of omega 3 to 6 fats at around a three to one ratio. This won’t help correct your omega balance if it’s off, but it gives you the right balance to start with. These fats act as anti-inflammatory aids to the body and the joints. To read more about hemp seeds, click (here).
