Please Vote – Should Cooked Plant Based Recipes be a part of Nouveauraw

Over the weekend I put a poll in the Private Nouveauraw Facebook Group, as well as on your member’s homepage. I would love to see what you all have to say about the possible idea of me adding cooked plant-based dishes to the site. It is something that has been rolling around in my head for quite some time.

Over the years, I have received many requests to include a cooked vegan food category to the site.  There is a plethora of vegan cooked sites as well as raw vegan sites out in the worldwide system of computer networks (AKA – Internet)… BUT I would like to think that I have established some confidence in you about how I go about creating recipes, explaining ingredients, teaching new techniques, and sharing about nutrition. Not only do I draw you into my “kitchen” to learn, but I also get to “sit” with you as you place recipes made from the site, down on the table before your loved ones.

While fruits and vegetables are a powerhouse of nutrition, you can unlock some extra nutrients in a few foods by cooking them. For example, cooking tomatoes help to release more of the lycopene found within them. Lightly cooking vegetables to make soup, or steaming fresh greens helps to soften the food and increase the number of nutrients that our bodies can absorb. Through my education, dedication, and passion in the kitchen, I want to add another layer of variety to your menus.

Don’t get me wrong…

I would continue to add new raw recipes to the site, clearly separating the two styles of food preparation. So, please don’t get the idea that I would be moving away from raw cuisine. One of our members on Facebook said, “This all raw site feels sacred to me to aspire to.” Two things stood out to me when she shared this.

The first word was sacred. I stopped and really thought about what that meant. Throughout life, we have all had a place that was sacred to us. Perhaps as a child, it was a tree fort or a dollhouse. It might have been that cozy chair where we got lost between the pages of a novel. Maybe it was at the beach, where our eyes met the mystery of the horizon. Or perhaps it was the mountain views, where the clouds constantly move into new and mesmerizing configurations. Special places are memorable, and this has always been my heart for Nouveauraw: to create a space for others to find joy, calmness, laughter, inspiration, encouragement, and support.

The second word to hit home was, aspire. Everyone here comes with their own ambitions as they work towards achieving optimal health. And what that path looks like will differ from person to person.  I want to meet people at all stages of life… to draw them into a world where one can learn that by adding plant-based foods (whether they be raw, cooked, or even combined) it is not only doable, but it is delicious and exciting.

It’s all about YOU.

When it comes to working with whole foods, I want you to gain confidence in your kitchen, help you transition to a healthier nutrient dense lifestyle… all by expanding your skill set and menu options.

What qualifies me to do this?  I got a plastic ball from a gumball machine and inside read a note, “You can do anything!” Ok, let’s try to be serious here. I have trained not only raw vegan cuisine through Living Light, but I am also a graduate of Roubxe Culinary School obtaining a Professional Plant-Based Certification. Along with that, I completed a full year of education with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where we studied 100 different dietary theories (both vegan and non-vegan). I crave knowledge, I earn to share it,  and I desire to live with passion. Nouveauraw has been a sacred platform for me too and causes me to aspire to become a better me.

So to wrap this up, the purpose of this poll is for me to put my finger on the pulse of our community. Be sure to log on to your membership page and vote. Have a blessed day, amie sue

    Thank you,

Yes because while a raw diet may be fine year round in the south in the Northern Climates it would be very difficult and in fact for most people it would weaken their body rather than strengthen it. I am in Canada and cooked is a definite yes when it gets well below zero.

      Hello Aeriol,

Thank you so much for your feedback. It is really good for me to learn more about our community so I can better serve. Blessings, amie sue :)

    Hi Amie-Sue,

Yes, I would like to see both cooked and RAW recipes on your website. It is a choice of the person who reads & belongs to “NOUVEAU RAW”, to chose if they would like to prepare a cooked dish or a RAW dish. But with your wonderful recipes, either way, we will never go wrong!! You’re awesome & Thank You for all the fantastic recipes you give to us!!!!

    • amie-sue says:

      Good afternoon JP,

Thank you very much for your input. I would keep the categories separate so that those who wish to remain only on raw recipes could easily do so. My goal is to ALWAYS bring quality and integrity into my recipes… raw or cooked (plant-based) Thanks again. blessings, amie sue

  5. marinadeluca says:

prefer not as my diet regime is 100% raw. prefer not to sift through cooked recipes to get info.

    Thanks
    Mariana

    • amie-sue says:

      Thank you Mariana,

I respect that. I will tell you though that if a plant-based cooking category was to be added, it would be in its own category. You wouldn’t see them unless you clicked on the “cooked” (or whatever I name it) line on the menu bar. I wouldn’t mix the two. blessings, amie sue

Hi Amie Sue – Yes, please include cooked recipes on your blog. I’m very excited that you are considering including cooked plant food recipes for us to try. I truly appreciate your expertise and know that whatever recipe you post it is sure to be well researched, healing, and delicious. Like you said, some foods are actually more nutritious when cooked and definitely, some are easier to digest. I look forward to the email that says you will be offering classes. Thanks for your continued efforts to make us healthier! Joanie

    • amie-sue says:

      Awesome Joanie,

Thank you for the feedback. Everything that is shared in this section means a lot to me. I don’t hear from a lot of members which makes it hard to get an idea of where everyone is coming from when they join the family here. So thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with me/us. blessings, amie sue

Although I occasionally consume cooked food, I became a member of Nouveau Raw because of your outstanding raw recipes. I’m concerned that the addition of cooked food recipes will result in fewer raw food recipes than you currently provide.
If that will not be the case, then cooked in a separate tab is fine.

    • amie-sue says:

As I mentioned above… I will still continue to create raw recipes. Adding in cooked plant-based recipes would be a slow process… just checking the pulse of the community to see if people are open to it. Thank you for the feedback, blessings. amie sue

Yes, would love to see what you can share with cooked recipes. Thank you for considering this.

  9. clarey says:

    Hi Amie sue,
For me personally having some cooked dishes would be fab too, like you said adding some cooked can give you even more variety of foods and nutrients too. In England, winters are harder for me to be high raw so i find myself looking for healthy cooked and comforting foods.
    Many thanks
    Clare

    • amie-sue says:

Good morning and thank you Clarey. I appreciate the feedback. Winter time can truly be hard to adhere to an all raw diet. I did it for a year in Alaska when I first learned about raw foods. It was a miserable winter and I didn’t thrive well. I will take all of these responses into consideration. hugs, amie sue

  10. LindaAlbert says:

    Dear Amid Sue,
I love your raw recipes, but living in Montana and being in my sixties (age wise, not culture or memories wise) in the winter it feels like I need a little more cooked foods in my diet, easier to digest and to help warm my digestive system a bit.
    Linda Albert

    • amie-sue says:

      Good day Linda,

I agree with that actually. I did 100% raw through winter in Alaska back when I started and I didn’t thrive at all. It’s all about learning to listen to one’s body and taking care of it accordingly. Thanks for the feedback. blessings, amie sue

    Hi Amie Sue,

I am absolutely thrilled that you are considering to add coocked section to your website! I love to add as much as I can raw food (mostly snacks) to my boys’ diet (husband and 2 boys), but at least 50% if our diet is cooked. Even though last 2 years we live in Ojai, CA (before it was Prague CZ for 15 years and I am originally from Ukraine, my husband is from USA… that’s for a complete picture :-) ). We are used to cooked food much more and it’s still a big part of diet. And recently, I’ve being thinking… I wish I found another website similar to Nouveau Raw, but with cooked plant based recipes to get more inspiration! And here you are! :-) I am looking forward to your cooked section!!! Those couple pictures you added with cooked carrots and tomatoes look incredible! I have a bunch of organic carrots right now and just was thinking what I can create from them… I wish you already posted that carrot recipe under the picture ;-).

I love your work and your site! Thanks a lot for all that inspiration and knowledge you share with us! Wish you a lot of energy, health and more and more inspiration!

    Anya
(and back to the kitchen to make some of our favorite banana nut brittles from your site ;-) )

    • amie-sue says:

Oh Anya, thank you. What a wonderful comment to receive. And thank you for the “complete picture” hehe. Love it. My desire for adding a cooked plant-based section (won’t be intermixed with the raw recipes) is to help give people healthy options. Not many people are 100% raw so I want to provide recipes to fill in their cooked portion. Plus it will inspire people who are even on the fence about eating whole foods as their primary diet… whether it be cooked or raw. Anytime I can inspire a person to reduce their consumption of processed foods is a day of rejoicing for me!

Again, thanks so much for sharing all that you did. It was a great encouragement. hugs, amie sue

  12. Shirley Foster says:

Hi Amie Sue, I have thoroughly enjoyed your web site with RAW foods. Not just for the recipes but for the nutritional information, the way you keep up with new ingredients, responding to questions and help on a recipe and your great stories. I would like to see some cooked recipe since I know you will make them to be as healthy as you can.

  13. patyreal says:

Cooked food is good, but your vision now will distract to what is not healthy. I follow you because is raw food. Anyway I keep my suscription because you have so many recipes I am not through all yet. I take this opportunity to reiterate my admiration of your work.
    Best regards!

    • amie-sue says:

Thank you for the feed-back Patyreal,

Should I decide to add cooked plant-based dishes to my site, please know that it won’t take away from the raw recipes that I have on the site and still plan on creating for everyone. It’s not one or the other. I don’t agree that my vision will distract to what is not healthy… furthest thing from my heart and passion of why I do what I do.

Have a blessed day, amie sue :)

    Hi Amie
Yes!!! Would Like to see cooked recipes, Thank

  15. Laughingfrog says:

I was so excited to find your truly raw website, especially such a high-caliber one. Most of the other raw sites now also have cooked recipes and I hate having to sort through them. Not sure why but it just bothers me seeing them on a site that touts raw foods. Your site is truly spectacular and I personally would hate to see it diluted with cooked food recipes. There are already so many cooked vegan blogs and sites. I guess the real question is what would make you happiest, and can you offer something new that isn’t already easy to find elsewhere? As it is you are truly unique. Adding cooked food recipes to a raw food site would definitely change it. Thanks for asking our opinions!

  16. Pink says:

Yes for sure. I would like to eat what you make every day. When you opening a restaurant. I would buy a cottage right by the restaurant :-) just so I can eat there every day.
