Frankincense Whipped Coconut Oil Moisturizer

LoadingFavoriteAdd to favorites

DYI Frankincense Whipped Coconut Oil Moisturizer stored in a mason jarFrankincense has a delicious woody, spicy aroma and amazing skin regeneration properties.  It helps to improve skin tone and condition.

It is inherently astringent, so it acts as a balancer, reducing excess dryness or oiliness, returning the skin condition back to normal.   Not only will the effect of the oil being absorbed through the skin have many beautiful effects… the aroma also comes with healing properties.

It is said to give emotional strength and has a positive and calming effect on the mind and body. Emotional distress takes up a lot of energy, resulting in fatigue. Frankincense helps to push energy levels back up and beat depression.  If you do some research on this oil, you will find that there is a ton of amazing things that it does.

But not only does the Frankincense oil have amazing effects on the skin, so does coconut oil!  It is a moisturizer, antibiotic, multivitamin, multi-nutrient, nourishing, anti-aging, antiwrinkle and anti-oxidant – All in one!  Plus, it is completely natural too!

I used to use coconut oil on my face, but I found myself breaking out, so I gave up on it.  That was until I learned this small important bit of info… You must use Pure Virgin Coconut Oil!   Its melting point is 76 degrees (F) or 24 degrees (C), while Hydrogenated Coconut Oil melts at 97-104 degrees F or 36-40 degrees C.  This means that the virgin coconut oil melts and stays in liquid form at your body temperature and does not clog your pores as it is in the liquid form.  It literally melts into your skin.

A quick funny story…  as I have shared over the years, my sweet husband, Bob, is one of my faithful recipe taste testers.  I am forever following him with a spoon in my hand, asking him to take a taste.  I will track that man down no matter where he is… in the garage ~ taste test! in the orchard ~ taste test! In the shower ~ taste test!  Yep, it is true; he can’t escape me. Hehe  Well, the night I made this, I was pretty darn excited to see the whipped up version of coconut oil, and I knew Bob would too because he uses it daily on his skin too.

So, once I got it all packaged up in the jar, I started my call… “Honey!  You need to check this out!”  I found him in his reading chair, engrossed in some article.  He popped his head up just in time to see me slide the jar in front of him.   Before I could even mutter one word out, he took his finger, dipped it into the coconut oil and popped it into his mouth!  Lol  “Nooo!  Bob, it’s a moisturizer, don’t eat it!”  He smiled, shrugged and said, “Hmm, tastes good anyway!”  Oy-vey. Haha, I love that man.

Keep in mind; you could use any of your favorite essential oils in it or just use it plain.

DYI Frankincense Whipped Coconut Oil Moisturizer stored in a mason jar on barn woodIngredients:

yields 1 cup

Preparation:

  1. Do not melt the coconut oil.  It won’t whip if it is in liquid form.
  2. Measure 1 cup coconut oil and place it in a mixing bowl along with the essence oil.  You can use a hand-held mixer or a stand mixer.
  3. Mix on high-speed for 8 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency.  It won’t get super fluffy, but you will notice a difference in the texture.  Stop occasionally and with a spatula, scrape the sides.
  4. Transfer the coconut oil moisturizer into a glass jar(s) and cover tightly. Store at room temperature. The whipped coconut oil should stay relatively soft.

Awesome, I use coconut oil often, I never thought to whip it. I’m going to make some with cedarwood for my ashy boyfriend right now. :-)

Just recently found your website and I am absolutely loving it! I get excited everytime I get an email update to see what new creation you’ve come up with! Where do you get all of your cute little jars, such as this one with the coconut oil or the one with the attached lid like with your apple butter?
Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Hi Cynthia,

Thank you, I am glad that you are enjoying it! I get my jars from various places. I love jars so my eyes are always pealed for them. :) I think I got those jars in the picture at Wal-Mart a long time ago, if I remember right. Have a wonderful day, amie sue

    Hi Amie Sue,

I have coconut oil all the time in my house but I never thought about its amazin properties as used on your skin. I do have really dry hands in the winter (specially today as is -30C outside!!!) and I will do this “magic” mixture today.
Is Myrrh oil the same as Frankincense?

    Thank you so much,
    Daniela

I love love LOVE coconut oil on my skin. How long do you think this would last?

  5. Kimmy says:

Ok, so I’ve never whipped coconut oil before, and I’m trying this recipe. My coconut oil seems to be getting more liquid-y the more I whip. Have a whipped too long (is there such a thing)? I should have looked at the time when I started but didn’t. I have probably whipped for at least 8 minutes…

    • amie-sue says:

Hi Kimmy, it could be a result of the room temp as well. I guess you can whip it to long, it is gets to the point of turning liquid, that means it got to warm. Let it firm back up and try again, but stop it before it gets to that stage. Blessings, amie sue

I just made this and cannot wait to try it out!

I added too much frankincense oil, do you think that’s OK?

Also, I add coconut oil to my bath water, can I use this mixture in the bath?

    Thank!

    • amie-sue says:

      Hello Nicole,

It ought to be fine as long as you like the smell and it isn’t to strong… so that part is up to your sniffer. :) And yes, it ought to be just fine to add to your bath as you normally do with the coconut oil… just be careful, oil, water, slippery… Have a blessed evening, amie sue

How often do you use coconut oil on your face? This got into my attention.

    • amie-sue says:

Right now I use it on my body… I use it daily. Just love it. :)

      • Elzbieta Kaminski says:

What about SPF? Use other besides the coconut oil? I m so eager to learn new thing here. Use it during bedtime as well? I appreciate your immediate response. That is what I love about you..

        • amie-sue says:

You caught me just as I am about to head to bed. :) To be honest, I have never used SPF… my skin is what Bob likes to call Alabaster white. hehe In my adult years, I haven’t ever been one to lay out in the sun or be out in the intense sun and if I am, I wear hats and long sleeves.

To clean my face I use Desert Essence Jojoba Oil 100% Pure. I wash my face in the am and pm with it.

As far as the coconut oil… I use it daily all over my body. I go through phases about using it on my face. Sometimes it is to heavy and other times it is perfect. I suppose it just depends on where a person lives, what the climate is like and the time of year that it is. If you are interested in using it as a moisturizer, try a little bit and see how it works for your skin. :) I hope this helps a bit. night my dear. :) amie sue

          • Elzbieta Kaminski says:

Thank you for sharing. I m going to give it a shot. With many positive remarks from amazon, I strongly feel I will be pleased as I trust your knowledge and experiences. Thanks again, Amie Sue

            • amie-sue says:

Your welcome Elzbieta :) I hope that you do enjoy it. It has really helped through the really cold spells where my skin normally gets really dry. Please let me know what you think when it comes in. Have a wonderful weekend. amie sue

  8. Jen says:

How long do you leave it on your face? And do you only do it at night? Thanks.

    • amie-sue says:

Hello Jen, you just need a little bit and I leave it on my face. I don’t apply it like a mask but like a moisturizer. And you can apply whenever you wish. I don’t wear makeup (except for eye makeup) so I used in the AM and PM, but it depends on your skin. You will need to test and see how you like to use for yourself. Have a wonderful weekend, amie sue

  9. Natalie says:

    Good morning Amie-Sue,

Would you be so kind to recomond a place where I can buy Extra Virgin Cocoanut oil, Extra Virgin Grapeseed oil and Extra Virgin Jojoba oil.
Thank you so much for your time.

    • amie-sue says:

Have you looked around where you live? I am not sure where that is. Otherwise, Amazon, iHerb or Vitacost can be good places to look. amie sue

  10. Cheryl says:

This sounds amazing! Would Lavender Oil be a suitable substitute for Frankincense?

    • amie-sue says:

You bet Cheryl, I don’t see why a person couldn’t use any scent that is enjoyed. :) Merry Christmas, amie sue

  11. Jessica says:

I love this! We use coconut oil in the shower daily anyhow for our super dry skin. Im going to run right out and get some frankensense. I would love to see more on the essential oils.

    • amie-sue says:

That is great Jessica. I smear coconut oil on me all the time. Even when I scoop some out to put in a recipe… I wipe the spoon on my hands and then dab it on my face. :) Have a blessed and wonderful weekend, amie sue

  12. Mari says:

    Hi Amie-Sue,
I added some peppermint oil to help with irritated skin. I was wondering if there was an oil I could add to increase the SPF?

    • amie-sue says:

I really don’t know Mari. I don’t have enough knowledge in that area to comment. Have a great evening, amie sue

  15. Ginger says:

    Hello :D
I love this advice! Thanks a billion!!
Does the whipped coconut oil and frankinsence cream stay whipped and does it not melt in warm temperatures because it’s been whipped? Or at what temperature does it melt back into a liquid form?

  16. Jan says:

Can you simply put drops of Frankincense in your regular moisturizer or must it be added to a more natural (eg coconut) oil?

I love Frankincense and Myrhh. I use this combination at Christmas to ‘scent’ the house.
    Blessings

    • amie-sue says:

You sure can Jan. I actually do that myself and have for a few years. I have a favorite lotion that I use on my face. I put a squirt of that in the palm of my hand, add 1-2 drops of Frankincense oil, rub together and put on my face and throat. :) Have a great day, amie sue

  17. Shar says:

    Hello Beautiful Lady,
    I have two questions please.

    1) what is the strength of the oils you are using? (are they cut with a carrier oil?)

    2) can you recommend a product to use with the coconut oil to make it more of a lotion? (less greasy to apply)

    Thanks so Much,
    Shar

    • amie-sue says:

      Hello Shar,

I am use the DoTerra oils and they are not cut with an oil before I add them to the coconut oil. I have just started playing around more with making lotions. So far I have been using mango butter, almond oil, and shea butter. They still have a bit of an oily effect when rubbing it in but they absorb quickly into my skin. As I learn more, I will share. Keep me posted if you find something too. We can work together on this. :) Blessings, amie sue

  18. melanie says:

    Hi!
Just wondering how many drops of myrrh you suggest to add to the frankincense and coconut oil?

    • amie-sue says:

I can’t say for sure Melanie, depends on how well you enjoy that aroma. Add a little and work up to the desired aroma. Blessings, amie sue

  19. Ginger says:

    Loving it!!

  20. Tamara Bryan says:

My grand daughter has eczema and I am wanting to try the coconut oil and frankincense on her. She is only 8 1/2 months old. Would I use the same ratio of 1 cup/20 drops for her. Thanks for your response in advance

    • amie-sue says:

Hello Tamara, I am not equipped to give advice on this matter. I don’t have experience nor have to studied on how to make a cream for a baby. Sorry but thanks for asking. amie sue
