Nov 03, 2020: Spiralizer (Manual) – Why and What I Recommend

spirolizing-carrots-480

I have been making veggie noodles since 2014. Once I started, I have never stopped. They are versatile, flavorful, nutritious, come in many shapes, colors, and let’s not forget that they are fun and easy to make.

These Black “Candied” Apples are perfect for Halloween. They are deliciously freaky looking, yet so elegantly beautiful. The moment this bread started baking in the oven, I immediately wanted to jump back into my jammies, glide my tippytoes into my favorite fuzzy slippers, and shake my brushed hair back into a frightful bedhead. How can just the smell of bread baking evoke such thoughts and feelings? That’s… read more »

Oct 24, 2020: #4 – Things we do Wrong when Juicing

Even though most people turn to juicing as a way to give their digestion a break, you need to be aware that certain fruits and veggies (dark leafy greens, wheatgrass, beets, etc) are so powerful that you may experience some stomach distress if you drink too much of them.

Blueberry Chocolate Chip Drop Cookie… I have to giggle because Bob was dead set on my making “drop cookies.” He never uses that term, so I asked him what a drop cookie was. He said, “You know, when you hold the dough high in the air and drop it on… read more »

Oct 17, 2020: #3 – Cleaning and Caring for Your Food Processor

Most of us don’t know what we’d do without our food processor. If you’re not there quite yet, you will soon. If you love your food processor as much as I love mine, you will want to take care of it properly so it will last you years to come. Just like any other appliance that we purchase… the more love you give it, the more love it will give back!

Oct 13, 2020: Home from the Grocery Store – Time-Saving Tips

Now, this may just sound plum silly… “How to put away my groceries? Pft! Did you fall off the turnip wagon, Amie Sue?” Perhaps, but that has nothing to do with my posting here. Not all of us are veteran, well-seasoned chefs. Many of us are just starting out and are overwhelmed with the whole idea of eating healthy and clean. This post was created to help you be productive with your time and to help you save money by keeping your ingredients fresher and longer. So let’s hop to it.

Oct 10, 2020: Navigating the Grocery Store

Navigating-the-Grocery-Store-FF

Chances are, the unhealthier foods on your list are in the middle aisles, which are filled with tempting processed and packaged foods. The healthy, whole foods are usually located around the perimeter of the store.

Oct 07, 2020: Papaya Peppercorns | Black Pepper Replacement

dried-black-pepper-in-shaker-F

Papaya seeds have a very unique flavor, one that you might not expect when coming from a mildly, sweet fruit. It has a peppery, mustard, wasabi taste.  But here’s the inside scoop… the larger the papaya, the sharper and stronger the flavor is. On the flip side, smaller papayas tend to have seeds with a milder taste.

Oct 01, 2020: Kelp Noodles with Almond Butter Miso Sauce

raw and gluten-free kelp noodles with almond butter miso sauce from Nouveau Raw

So, what exactly are Kelp Noodles? Well, they are not really “noodles” at all; at least not in the traditional sense. They’re made from raw edible kelp seaweed, specifically from the thin colorless inner layer under the kelp’s outer skin. These thin, noodle-shaped strips of kelp are preserved in natural seaweed-derived salt (called sodium alginate).

Sep 30, 2020: Pumpkin and Ginger Waffles or Pancakes | Cooked | Flour-Free | Oil-Free | Nut-Free

vegan gluten-free nut-free oil free pumpkin ginger waffles

I know… I should have made these waffles Instagram-worthy, but to be honest, I didn’t want to saturate these waffles with syrup, whipped cream, nuts, and other enticing foods that we just aren’t eating these days. I don’t believe in “sacrificing” food just for the sake of a photo-op. Perhaps… read more »

Sep 26, 2020: #5 – Omega 3/6 for Vegans

Omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA’s) are essential and healthy nutrients – they help regulate blood clotting, reduce inflammation, build cell membranes and support overall cellular health. The body can’t synthesize these so it has to come from our diet. Essential Omega-3 nutrients can be found in animal products such as fish oil, grass-fed meats, eggs, and dairy products BUT you can also source them through plant-based foods.

Sep 22, 2020: Juicing Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is a complete food and an excellent source of vitamin C, E, K and B complex (including B12). In the minerals department, it is rich in calcium, cobalt, germanium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, protein, sodium, sulfur, and zinc. It is often called “Liquid Sunshine” because of its very high content of chlorophyll, which is the green pigment that harnesses the sun’s energy.

Sep 01, 2020: Transitioning away from Refined Sugar (+PDF)

Transitioning-away-from-Refined-Sugar-FF

Let’s start this off with a jaw-dropping statement… Did you know that sugar is found in 74 percent of packaged foods in our supermarkets? Regular sugar consumption can lead to serious long-term health problems, including excess weight gain, hormonal imbalance, skin and dental issues, osteoporosis, diabetes, and even some forms of cancer.  One of the main problems with sugar, and processed fructose, in particular, is the fact that your liver has a very limited capacity to metabolize it, this can lead to non-alcoholic liver disease.
