I love leftovers. Most people don’t, but I find it to be a great opportunity to breathe new life into already-made dishes. I mean shoot, all the hard work is already done!
The components are just waiting for your creative mind. This is a result of my creative mind. :) I giggled the whole time I took the photos. I mean, it looked delicious, it tasted delicious, I guess the thought of a savory home-prepared meal stuffed into a nori roll and then dipping it in soy sauce brown gravy… just struck my funny bone.
And in this home we are brave enough to feed this to a true sushi lover… well, they just might wrinkle their nose or then again, maybe not.
I used a fun little gadget that I bought ooooh…. 5 years ago but never used. It was lost in one of those lazy-susan-twilight-zone- cabinets. Your smiling… you have one of those too, don’t you? Anyway, I found it! It is called Sushezi. I have rolled a few nori rolls in my day, but I have to tell you that this was so easy and fun to use, that I have vowed to never put it back in the lazy-susan-twilight-zone-cabinet!
You don’t have to own one of these by any means in order to make sushi rolls. I sort of liken it to the spiralizer. You don’t have to own one to make zucchini noodles, you can use a potato peeler, but a spiralizer is just so much more fun and easy for kids to use too. This is the same. If you have little ones, having them roll conventional sushi rolls could be challenging for their little paws. But this… they can do! 美味しい!! ( that is supposed to be delicious in Japanese. I hope Google translate didn’t let me down. Haha)
I love to make nori rolls…often as lunch with sprouts, cultured sauerkraut, red bell pepper matchsticks and avocodo. Just looking at a recipe using mandolined radishes, micro green and avocado….must try soon. I have never seen one of sushezi…..I understand why it was in the twilight zone!
Hello Amy,
We enjoy nori rolls too. They are so forgiving and you can use about anything for a filling. :) Of course a person doesn’t need the sushezi to make them, it just makes it so easy. Specially for those who have a hard time with hand coordination, plus it makes it fun for kids to get involved.
Be well and have a great day, amie sue
aHa! That looks like an awesome cheat’s version to make sushi. I love it. I make mine by hand but I might be able to get my husband to make sushi if I buy one of those.
Yea, it is just a fun gadget to have. I normally do mine by hand too… until I found this lurking in the back of the cabinet. lol
Oh I just had a scathingly brilliant idea while I’m in an experiemntal stage, Amie-Sue (amazing what meditation brings to the surface, isnt it). Have you ever tried to make rice paper for vietnamese fresh rolls?
Hmm, I haven’t made it from rice. I have made it from Young Thai Coconut meat… which when done looks a bit like rice paper. :)
Oh nice! I’ve just bought 4 coconuts for the week so will give this a go. You’re a legend!
Oh you will love them Danielle. But then I am a coconut lover. :) A legend? hmm, lol Dunno about that. Your a sweetie. Enjoy! Let me know how they turn out.
Absolutely, Amie-Sue. I’m excited to try this (coconut lover here as well). Will try the rice as well but I’ll have to fiddle a bit. I know how to make them fresh straight off the steamer but will have to experiment with drying them and then rehydrating. I’ll definitely let you know.
Awesome Danielle, please keep me posted. I am curious about the rice creation! amie sue
